Fuck Yeah Stephen Sondheim

Bow before the fucking king of musical theater. You can put stuff in my ask box, but I'm unlikely to answer on the blog. I will probably just put the answer in your ask box. If you really want to have a conversation, I'm always on Twitter.

blues2broadway:

This is Jackie Cain and Roy Kral, a jazz duo playing a stripped down, jazzed-up version of Not a Day Goes By. This live recording is out of print and was one of my favourite finds at a local records store.

Yes, I love jazz versions of show tunes.

One of my favorite albums. One of my new favorite Tumblrs.

Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, 1996 Professional World Championships. “Not a Day Goes By”, sung by Mandy Patinkin.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this program since I saw it early yesterday. Just a beautiful, beautiful piece of art. This was one of their final performances and the emotion in the air is palpable.

Fuck yeah Swedish! (This post is dedicated to David Hyde Pierce.)

Sorry guys, super busy this week so please enjoy this re-run, first seen on this blog in November, 2010. (“Good Thing Going” and “Not A Day Goes By” sung in Swedish.)

While I don’t get the audio of Merrily at Encores! (I’m so not paying for it) chew on GOD singing “Not A Day Goes By”. Enjoy.

Not one of Sondheim’s finest vocal performances to say the least. :)

Lea Salonga: “Not A Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along

Christiane Noll sings a mashup of You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow and Not A Day Goes By.

We used to call these “medleys.”

Not A Day Goes By- Lea Michele

I’ve made fun of her on this blog before, so it’s only fair to say that she does a very credible job with this song. Gives me hope that once she’s free from Glee she might be able to reconnect with good technique.

Okay, so you could drive a truck through his vibrato and park it in her mouth, but I can see why some of you go nuts for this kind of thing.

(Really, I love Marin, although I think the only time I’ve seen her onstage was when she was a replacement Rapunzel in the original production of Into the Woods. I liked Danieley in Full Monty, less so in Curtains.)
