Here’s Lea Salonga singing Everybody Says Don’t.
Now I readily admit that, on average, women cannot do everything men can - there are some biological limitations - but I get incredibly upset when I am told, “You shouldn’t do it, you are a girl!”. Who sets the (insert expletives)* rules?
*I made the mistake of telling my priest that my Lenten promise this year is to swear less often. My priest believes that a commitment at Lent is a commitment for life. To be fair I made this commitment myself.
Laurie Beechman on the Donahue show. Don’t be put off by the clips of her in Cats at the beginning — at about 1:10 she sings “Everybody Says Don’t” from Anyone Can Whistle.
(The clip continues to include her performance of “Long Before I Knew You” from Bells Are Ringing.)
Will & Anthony Nunziata are identical twins with a cabaret act and a new album. Here’s their rendition of “Everybody Says Don’t” from a recent show at Feinstein’s.
Everybody Says Don’t - Mandy Patinkin
Seriously one of my favorite albums. Mandy is amazing.
This is one of my least favorite Mandy albums, in part because it seems to highlight all of his tics that overpower his performances when he isn’t working with a strong director.
Everybody Says Don’t|1995 New York Concert Cast of “Anyone Can Whistle”
Fuck yeah Scott Bakula! (Buy the album.)
Andrea McArdle (Broadway’s original Annie) sings “Everybody Says Don’t” from Anyone Can Whistle at a masterclass with Seth Rudetsky on piano.
Moving On was a British Sondheim revue put together by David Kernan in 2000. It included original, taped interviews with Sondheim between the songs, which inspired James Lapine to work on his own version, which eventually became Sondheim on Sondheim.
The revue’s cast included Geoffrey Abbott, Linzi Hateley, Belinda Lang, Robert Meadmore, and Angela Richards.
This track is a medley of Move On, I Know Things Now, Everybody Says Don’t, and Take Me To The World.
Regine Velasquez performs “Everybody Says Don’t” ala Streisand. My two favorite things about this video are the guitars that come in around 2:40 and that dress. THAT DRESS!
