Isn't He Something Jessica Molaskey

I didn’t love Road Show in the theater, and I can’t say I listen to either the Road Show or Bounce cast albums all that much.  But boy do I love Jessica Molaskey’s jazzy vocal albums… so here’s “Isn’t He Something” from her 2008 album A Kiss To Build A Dream On.

“I remember when we were doing Sunday in the Park with George. He had written the first act—we did it at Playwrights Horizons—[but] the second act wasn’t happening. So then we started doing it on Broadway, and when you didn’t have an end of the second act, and you had to go out and play the first act, it was sort of a nightmare, because we knew we didn’t have an ending. [To Murphy] And I know you guys have just been through a lot of changes too. And the last night before the critics came, he put in two songs: one called ‘Children and Art’ that Bernadette Peters sang, and another one called ‘Lesson #8’ that I sang. Those two songs were put in and everything—like a backward domino effect, [they] just made the whole show take off. […] I was backstage with him one day when it was just a nightmare, and I said, ‘Stephen, write anything! Even if it’s lousy, even if it stinks, just give me something to sing out there.’ ‘I will,” he said. ‘I will. I–I–I will.’ And he did. But it takes him his time. And he taught me a great lesson with that. It just takes the amount of time it’s gonna take. Period.” —Quote of the day: “Mandy Patinkin on previews and changes” - Adam Feldman - Upstaged Blog - Time Out New York

Epiphany (Sweeney Todd) Alice Ripley

I don’t love this performance, but Alice Ripley sure does make a convincing crazy person, doesn’t she?

Rose's Turn Betty Buckley

Betty Buckley — “Rose’s Turn” — An Evening At Carnegie Hall

So it’s way too classy to be in-character … who cares? “Rose’s Turn” has never sounded better. I am convinced that, when she was in her prime, there was no one in the world with a more magnificent voice than Betty Buckley.

Own the album.
