The only thing I'll say about this.

There are a lot more shitty-ass barely-sitcom and/or melodrama level of no-substance junk-food plays that get written (and, sadly, produced!) every year than there are musicals. And that’s not even taking into account the total head-scratching success of folks like Neil LaBute. But I understand the difference between a medium (or, if you wish, an art form) and the art produced therein and...

fuckyeahgreatplays: Musicals are like macaroni and cheese. There’s a wide range of quality, and just because I like some fancy homemade baked 18-cheese casserole style doesn’t mean I’m above the 99-cent E Z Mac (especially when I am drunk). But on the whole it’s theatrical junk food. Delicious, but nothing particularly substantial. Fuck you very much.

I think the two videos I have queued up today will make for a fine celebration, although I’m still open to other suggestions. I sort of once played banjo, but certainly not well enough for Sondheim. I used to play Trombone and I think I even had a songbook that included some numbers from Follies, but I was younger than, and good at climbing trees. Alas.
